CFA Piles & Load Testing
Double Star Drilling (DSD) was awarded the design, supply and installation scope of work for Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles and including a static pile load test, complete with monitoring, data collection and post load test reporting for the Trail Appliances project located in Edmonton AB.
This project marked a significant milestone as this was the largest CFA project undertaken by DSD with 807 piles with a total length of 9,380 lineal meters. The CFA test pile was installed at 400mm diameter and 26m in length along with four reaction piles. The objective of the pile load test was to determine the ultimate geotechnical capacity of the soils. DSD utilized the SoilMec SF65 (dedicated CFA drill rig) and the SoilMec SR-65 (dual purpose rig – CFA & conventional drilling) CFA drill rigs to install the production piles with diameters of 400mm, 500mm and 750mm installed to depths up to 21m.
