Drilled CIP Piles
Double Star Drilling was awarded the supply and installation of the Drilled CIP Pile scope of work for the New Central Library by Stuart Olson, which is located just east of City Hall in Calgary, AB. This was a high volume site with the multiple drill rigs, hydro vacs and concrete trucks as well as being only a few meters away from the live LRT tracks, safety was the main concern. Double Star handled the pressure by committing two onsite experienced Superintendents to handle daily tasks, documentation, and safety of their crews.
- Project Details
A total of 100 piles were installed with diameters ranging from 600mm to 1500mm in diameter and to a depth range of 17m to 28m. Double Star’s Liebherr LB24, LB28, and LB36 drill rigs were required to deal with the challenging water and gravel soil conditions. These drill rigs are among the largest in Western Canada and were essential for meeting the client`s production demands. In order to complete the project on time with no incidents, the piles were fully cased using segmental casing to prevent soil loss during drilling to ensure no settlement of the LRT tracks. With Double Star`s quality supervisors and dedicated crews, the New Central Library was a successful project and created a new relationship with Stuart Olson.
